How to Decorate a Bedroom With Black and White
Things You'll Need
Assess Your Room
- Black paint
- White paint
- Black and white bedding or window treatments
- Black and white bedroom accessories
- Color accents
Decide how elaborate you want your black and white theme to be. If you're going for a full black and white theme, plan your painting strategy and consider whether you'll paint any furniture.
Keep in mind that a bedroom should always have some warm elements, so it's best not to have black and white as the only colors in the room. Decide what color accents you'll use in your room. You can use this color for decorative items such as throw pillows, or as source of contrast on a color accent wall.
Decide which walls you will paint. You shouldn't paint more than two of them black; any more than this will make your room seem dark and small. You can also paint black stripes on a white wall, or paint black patterns on your walls using a stencil.
Decide whether you'll paint any furniture. If you have a matching set of wood furniture, you may not need to paint it, as most wood tones blend well with a black and white theme. If your furniture is mismatched or you're ready for a change, painting all of your pieces in either black or white is a great way to pull a bedroom together and create a classy look.
Decorate and Add Finishing Touches
Implement any parts of your "big plan" first, such as painting walls or furniture.
Match your bedding to your black and white theme. A pure white bedding set is a great way to offset black furniture or a black wall. You can also mix and match black and white pillows, or invest in a few different duvet covers so that you can vary the amount of black and white in your bedroom as you see fit.
Find some accent pieces in the color (or colors) you chose when you made your plan. Decorating your bedroom with picture frames, candles, throw pillows or books in your accent color will add variety and help bring out the black and white elements.
