How to Decorate a Boys Bedroom With a Fishing Theme

Many boys have bedrooms decorated with the latest fad superhero or the ubiquitous cars and trains. A fishing theme, however, is different and interesting. If the boy in your life loves to fish, bring that activity into his bedroom by purchasing and creating decorations that highlight his love of the sport. A bedroom fishing theme is not difficult to put together, and the result will be a room he is sure to love.

Things You'll Need

  • Bedding
  • Fish-shaped throw pillows
  • Fish-patterned fabric scraps
  • Fish stencils
  • Wall paint and painting supplies
  • Card stock
  • Computer and printer
  • Double-sided tape
  • Fishing photos
  • Old fishing pole
  • Fishing lure
  • Fishing baskets and tackle boxes
  • Fish-themed rug

Decorate the Bed
Purchase a bedspread that has a fishing theme. Or, if you can't find one, choose bedding in different shades of blue to evoke the colors of a pond or lake.

Accent the bedding with fishing-related throw pillows. Perhaps you can find or sew one in the shape of a fish. Or, purchase a scrap of fabric covered with fish and cover an existing throw pillow with the fabric.

Stencil a row of fish on the headboard of the bed to complete the look.

Decorate the Walls
Paint the walls a soothing blue color. Add "waves" at the bottom in a slightly darker shade of blue.

Add some fish to the waves. For a realistic look, print out some real photos of fish on card stock. Cut the fish out and fasten them to the wall with double-sided tape.

Hang some photos of your son fishing.

Finish the Decor
Hang a fishing pole over the window to use as a curtain rod. Dangle a colorful lure from the tip of it to add interest.

Set out tackle boxes and old fishing baskets on the floor or on shelves, and use them to store toys or art supplies.

Place a fish-shaped rug on the floor, or a rug that matches the colors on the bed.
