How to Paint a Tree Branch for Bedroom Decoration
Things You'll Need
- Pencil
- Acrylic paint
- Palette or plastic container lid
- Paint brushes
Sketch the outline of the tree branch on the wall with a pencil. Use a stencil or freehand drawing to get the size and shape of the branch. Tree branches are a basic Y shape.
Squirt brown, white and black paint on the palette or plastic lid. Include a small dab of brown paint if you're painting a white birch tree.
Apply brown paint to the center of the branch and twigs, painting with a lengthwise motion. Create the area with white paint if the branch is from a birch tree.
Dip the brush into the white paint and paint over the top 1/4 inch of the wet brown paint and down the length of the branch. The white and brown will mix slightly, creating tan. Wash the paint out of the brush with water. For a birch tree, use light gray paint in place of the white to paint the top of the branch.
Dip the edge of the brush into a small amount of black paint. Make a line under the branch to create a shadow. Make slight black lines and dabs in the crotch between the branch and a twig and in the center of the Y shape. Let the paint dry, and wash the brush thoroughly.
Step back and study the branch. Stencil or sketch in leaves with the pencil.
Squirt dark, green, yellow and a small amount of white acrylic paint on the palette or plastic lid.
Paint the top half of the leaf with the green paint using a curving motion with your wrist. Repeat the same technique and paint for the bottom of the leaf with dark green paint. Clean the paint brush thoroughly.
Dip the tip of the brush into the yellow paint. Draw a curved line from the stem end of the leaf to the tip. Add a tiny dot of white paint to the tip of the brush, and dab at an area where the imaginary light touches the leaf. Complete the branch by adding more leaves.
